YOUR DATA.
YOUR GAME.
Nearly is a free daily basketball game. This policy explains the information the site uses to run the game, private friend groups, contact and guest submissions, and advertising. Contact the Nearly operator through the contact form with questions or data requests.
Game data
We assign your browser a random player ID in a first-party, HttpOnly cookie. It lasts up to one year and lets us remember your guesses, scores, streak, nickname, group membership, and invite ownership. We also store your guesses and points for each edition, and the dates needed for standings. You can play without creating an account. A recovery code, if you request one, is shown once; we store only its hash. Your browser may store a pending group invite link locally until you join.
Group members can see each other’s chosen nicknames and daily and weekly scores. Group invites are private links, but anyone who receives a valid link can ask to join after playing. Do not share an invite outside your intended group.
Messages and site measurement
If you use our contact form, we store your email address, topic, message, and submission time so the editor can respond. Guest question proposals may include a name, email, bio, channel link, proposed questions, and permission to use them. We also count first-party events such as starting and finishing a round, sharing a result, and joining a group to understand whether the game works. Event records and contact messages older than 180 days are removed when the server starts. Game records and guest proposals remain until they are removed following a valid request or operational need.
Advertising and cookies
The ad spaces currently show placeholders. Once an approved AdSense account is connected, Google and other advertising vendors may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, may serve ads based on your visits to Nearly or other sites. Google’s advertising cookies let Google and its partners tailor ads based on those visits. You can manage personalized ads in Google Ads Settings and learn more at Google’s advertising privacy page. If other ad vendors are enabled, we will identify them and their choices here before they serve.
For visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland, we plan to use Google’s certified consent management platform through AdSense Privacy & messaging before live ads are enabled. Its message will offer consent choices, and its footer link will let you revisit privacy and cookie settings. We will also configure the applicable US state privacy choices in AdSense. If a required consent flow is not published and working, live ads stay disabled for that launch.
Security, retention, and choices
We use HTTPS on the public site, restrict access to the editorial desk, and do not sell game scores or group details. Hosting providers may process routine connection data such as IP addresses and browser information to deliver and protect the site. You can clear the Nearly cookie to stop this browser from identifying your player record, but doing so may make your scores and groups inaccessible unless you saved a recovery code. To request access, correction, or deletion of data we can identify, send a privacy request. We may need to confirm that the record is yours before changing it.
Nearly is intended for a general basketball audience and is not designed for children under 13. We may update this policy when the hosting provider, advertising setup, or data practices change. The updated date will appear here.
